The Undertaker revealed his greatest opponents to be Triple H and Shawn Michaels in his documentary ‘The Last Ride’. Touted as the end of an era, the final match saw the legends take the stage at WrestleMania 28. As fate would have it, Taker faced them again at WWE Crown Jewel.

For those not aware, the tag-team match between The Brothers of Destruction and D-Generation X was one of the worst WWE events of 2018. The match lasted for more than 20 mins. Even the extended time couldn’t save the match from being labeled as a sloppy performance.

In the third episode of The Last Ride, Undertaker talks about the circumstances that led to the match and how it ultimately went down. Taker says he was unsure if Shawn Michaels would be on board, however, Michaels’ concurrence came as a pleasant surprise.

“I was blown away that he agreed to do it. Even talking to him about it, you know, he had no aspirations of making a comeback. It was a one-off,” explains The Undertaker.

Shawn Michaels hung his gloves up for good following the match with Undertaker at WrestleMania 26. He was out of action for a long period.

Working on a storyline of nowhere was certainly not necessary. The build-up wasn’t so great that he’d come out of retirement for a tag-team match with his best friend Triple H.

Triple H in the documentary compares the bout to a bad comedy movie. “Except me and Taker doing the once in a while thing, Shawn hasn’t wrestled in however many years, Kane is the mayor. It’s like a bad comedy movie,” he said.

There are barely any matches that the Undertaker would be ashamed of. Unfortunately, the match at Crown Jewel is one of them. Undertaker calls the entire match a train-wreck.

“It was a total train wreck. It was a disaster,” said The Phenom.

He also mentions how he was going through some personal problems, and that is one of the reasons why he couldn’t commit entirely to the match.

“I take a lot of responsibility in that because of my mind, I wasn’t there. I mean I was there physically, but mentally I wasn’t there. And Michelle and I had some personal things going on with other parts of the family and I had that you know, drama going on in my head that I was all consumed with,” admits Taker.

Undertaker on his chance to retire

Plans of The Phenom finally leaving this life behind have been around for quite some time. Things didn’t escalate because of how Taker wanted to go out. He says that if the match had gone right, he could have finished up then and there.

“If that match would have come off the way that it was intended and the way we wanted it to that may have been enough for me,” explains The Deadman.

After a career of 30 plus years, it is only fair that the legend gets the storybook ending that he deserves. Undertaker still has a few matches in him, WWE could slowly bring forth a storyline that’d give him a proper way out.
