Shane McMahon has had a troubled past with WWE. In 2022, he was involved in the Royal Rumble event. After a blunder, his father, who was in charge of the business at the time, was reportedly angry with him and did not want him to get involved with the company again. The next year, fans saw him return to WWE.

However, Shane’s grand return at WrestleMania 39 remained ill-fated as he endured an injury due to which he had to sit at home for a long time. Although McMahon has probably recovered by now, we still can’t see him anywhere in the company. This makes the fans wonder about his contract situation.

Is Shane McMahon still a WWE asset?

Since WWE was inherited by Vince McMahon from his father hereditarily, and based on his skills to handle the business, one would assume that Shane McMahon may also get a department to handle the company. A departmental responsibility is a far-fetched idea, as the former WWE employee doesn’t even have an active contract with the promotion either.

Fightful Select recently revealed on Patreon, “Though Shane appeared at WrestleMania last year, he no longer has a contract of any kind with WWE, including a talent contract, legends contract, or anything of the sort.” The businessman is featured in the latest WWE 2k24 as part of a different contract, but other than that, he is not bound to the company in any way.

It is natural for fans to assume that Shane McMahon may not want to sign with any other promotion because of what WWE may mean to him. But the scenario logically doesn’t hold him back from working in different wrestling companies. Moreover, there are already rumors of Shane McMahon signing with Tony Khan.

Will Shane be seen in AEW soon?

A few days ago, a rumor was discussed on the Grilling JR Podcast that Shane McMahon has talked with people about being on the AEW roster. Although the exact source of this rumor wasn’t mentioned on the podcast, Jim Ross went on to add to the story. He first talked about his personal connection with Shane McMahon and how he thinks he is a person who deserves a chance in the industry again. The former WWE employee then went on to claim that Shane’s AEW signing is possible.

Despite a piece of solid evidence to back up this claim and speculation, Ross believes that the pro wrestling business is ‘crazy’ enough to see this happening. Now that we know that McMahon is not bound to WWE by any ongoing contracts, it could become an easier path for him to choose. If this happens, we may see him getting removed from WWE 2k24.

Do you think the 54-year-old would be bound by the gaming contract? Moreover, would you like to see him show up on another promotion?
