Being predominantly a scripted sport, WWE barely goes beyond the script even during the special programs and ceremonies as well. From feuds to speeches, almost everything you watch here is pre-determined. WWE veteran Ric Flair recently went against this norm during the recent Hall of Famer induction event.

The WWE Hall of Famer induction ceremony took place on March 31 at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles. Ric Flair was a high-profile invitee to the event to induct the legendary Japanese pro wrestler The Great Muta into this year’s Hall of Fame.

While giving the speech, the Nature Boy willfully went off script. According to many reports, Flair didn’t thoroughly read out the teleprompter as everybody did. Rather, in between the speech, he spoke his mind while labeling the Great Muta as the best Japanese wrestler ever, something he first stated back in 2015. The former Hall of Famer also talked about how he used to guide him in the new city of Atlanta during his initial days at WCW.

However, Flair got back to the original script at the end of his speech. But it didn’t suffice in terms of escaping an obvious WWE rage. The Stamford-based company higher-ups who were very much impressed with Konnan’s Rey Mysterio induction speech reportedly got offended by what Flair did at the event that night.

Even after receiving passive criticism from various entities and the company itself, the 74-year WWE veteran is still clueless about where he went wrong.

Ric Flair has his say on the recent controversy surrounding him

The two-time Hall of Famer Ric Flair is widely known for getting himself drowned in controversies. But this time Flair couldn’t find the proper reason for people being angry at him. While speaking on the To Be The Man podcast, the wrestling veteran noted, “I don’t know what they didn’t like about it. You have to remember that 99% of the people in attendance in that building don’t even know who Muta is. Does it make sense? They haven’t performed [against him], well the wrestling people do, but I’m saying the audience.”

Flair then stated that no one from WWE has directly called him out for his action yet.

The 16-time world champion was released from the company in August last year. He stopped wrestling in the squared circle in 2012 long before signing off from non-programming activities too. But has often made comebacks in the ring and continues to be in the headlines.
