After making an explosive debut at AEW Dynamite, RVD challenged Jack Perry for the FTW championship on behalf of longtime rival Jerry Lynn. RVD sent the fans into a frenzy by walking out to his old ECW theme song, ‘Walk’ by Panthera. As the fans are buzzing from the special appearance, it seems the run would be curtailed.
In a report by PWInsider, it is revealed that the 52- year-old superstar’s deal is a short-term deal, as he’s only scheduled for a one-off appearance.
This might disappoint a few fans, as they would have liked to see the legend in action on a consistent basis and eventually face superstars like CM Punk, and Chris Jericho among others.
However, in a surprisingly sweet turn of events, WWE is reportedly advertising the high flyer to be a part of WrestleMania 40 packages. This strongly suggests a comeback for the superstar at a place where he achieved his maximum glory by defeating John Cena 17 years ago.
RVD and John Cena to rekindle their iconic feud?
Rob Van Dam has won major championships everywhere around the world. However, fans celebrate none more than his iconic match against John Cena for the WWE Championship at ECW One Night Stand in 2006. RVD cashed in his money in the bank contract with John Cena against a ruckus anti-Cena crowd, after getting drafted to ECW.
With RVD the firm favorite among fans, he defeated John Cena to capture his first and only WWE Championship. He would later become the first person to hold the ECW and WWE Championship simultaneously.
