After his MITB loss, does Seth Rollins still have what it takes to headline SummerSlam?

CM Punk has been feuding with both Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre simultaneously for different reasons. While the latter two don’t have bad blood for each other, both of them seem to be after Punk’s life for how he put their respective wrestling runs in jeopardy. As of now, the final opponent for the “Best in the World” hasn’t been decided but reports reveal the probable future.

Will Seth Rollins be present at SummerSlam this year?

The Visionary recovered from his injury hiatus and returned to the promotion before Money in the Bank. He then challenged the World Heavyweight Champion in a match that he lost because of CM Punk’s interference. This reignited the feud between him and the WWE legend that fans had forgotten about.

While talking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed, “The Punk (vs McIntyre) match is ‘probable’. Rollins will probably be involved in that match but I was told it was not gonna be a three-way, or at least as of six days ago, it was not gonna be a three-way.

This would mean that Seth Rollins could interfere in the match, altering its outcome and teaching CM Punk a valuable lesson for the future. The interference would also allow Seth Rollins to take his revenge on the former AEW star when he cost him the title shot at the WHC. Since the former champion wouldn’t be able to challenge Damian Priest again for a long time, his anger is valid.

Drew McIntyre‘s absence from the roster since the failed MITB cash-in has also made an industry insider speculate that perhaps the SummerSlam PLE could have a match card with Seth Rollins and CM Punk on it while The Scottish Psychopath remains a guest appearance.

Have an interesting take?

If the match isn’t booked between Punk and Drew McIntyre, the latter’s role could be switched with that of Seth Rollins’. This means that we could end up seeing CM Punk in the squared circle against The Aerialist at SummerSlam. However, McIntyre’s role would be reversed and he may interfere in the match to make CM Punk lose. This fantasy booking was speculated by a former WWE star while he was talking about the possibilities in the near future on a podcast.

Either way, it is unlikely that CM Punk will lose the match. This is because he will be returning to the promotion after a long time and fans wouldn’t want him to lose his first match. So, to fit all of this in, the Stamford-based company may end the match in disqualification when the officials spot interferences happening in the match. This will allow them to both keep the fans happy and also fulfill the booking that they may be trying to move ahead with.
