Did Seth Rollins just ruin the hype for SummerSlam with his CM Punk segment blunder?

During the opening of the Monday Night RAW, CM Punk and Drew McIntyre met with Seth Rollins to learn about the rules of their match at WWE SummerSlam. Instead, they verbally assaulted each other in the process as they could not attack each other. Rollins entered the ring in flamboyant referee’s attire and waved to the Minnesota crowd. The audience went crazy chanting his entrance and anticipating an amazing segment before the most anticipated fight between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk will take place at SummerSlam.

Rollins clarified that he would explain the rules of the match to the two superstars there. However, he also revealed that as per the directives of General Manager Adam Pearce, if they both put a finger on each other, their match would be canceled, just as if they did it with the referee, that is, himself. He even snapped at Punk that things were going to be his way because he offered to settle their stupidities and put order until the night they fought. Since he wanted to see them destroy each other in the ring.

He also revealed that he would be leaving in an hour so they’ll have to wrap things up quickly. All this surely did not sit well with WWE legend Bully Ray. As he lambasted the WWE for announcing all these details beforehand, thus killing the hype for the segment. On the Busted Open Podcast, he said, “Seth went ballistic when they allowed Punk back into the WWE and they didn’t smarten him up. There’s real animosity amongst these gentlemen. There’s professional wrestling animosity amongst these gentlemen. And what do I hear from Seth Rollins right out of the bat? Right out of the gate, right off the bat? I’ve been told by Adam Pearce that there’s no physicality allowed in this ring, otherwise the match is called off.”

He added, “You have immediately taken the wind out of my sails as a fan. You have now told me I have no reason to get excited or amped up because I might get an opening show, brawl, pull apart, fight, a DDT, of something. Nothing is going to happen because if something does happen, the match is called off. And we know the match is not going to be called off for SummerSlam. So basically, you’ve told me as a fan, this is what you’ve done to me. You told me, sit down, shut up and listen to our verbiage.”

Bully Ray did not stop here. He was visibly frustrated at the decision as he further continued to criticize the move. “Don’t tell me you’ve got to leave in an hour. You’ve already killed the vibe. I’m excited to see you. You’re excited to be here, but you’ve just killed the vibe because you already told me you have to go in an hour. So now every time you look at your watch, you’re just taking the fun out of the situation. Instead of telling me you have to leave in an hour, have a blast with me for an hour, and then when an hour is over, go, hey listen, I got to split.”

Well, Bully Ray isn’t wrong to be fair since the WWE did take away the incentives from the fans by announcing everything beforehand. But Punk surely is trying to keep the hype alive, as he shared some words about his upcoming match against McIntyre.

CM Punk is preparing for their first match in six months. After receiving the medical clearance, the fighter will be able to face Drew McIntyre to end one of the company’s most prominent rivalries today. This is what Punk commented in a recent appearance on ESPN’s First Take. “I’m extremely pumped. It’s been a long road to get back to WWE. We obviously have had our problems, I’ll say. To come back and get injured in January was pretty crushing. It gave me a lot to do in rehab. Being able to refocus and really seize the opportunity that I’ve been given,” Punk said.

When asked why he’s focused his interest on Drew McIntyre, Punk replied, “I’m a target for Drew. That’s really all there is to it. Drew keeps poking the bear. Sometimes you have to let them know who the man is.” When it was pointed out that McIntyre said that Punk is not a leader, Punk stated, “I never claimed to be one. I’m just trying to do my job. I’m just trying to wrestle. I’m very polarizing for some odd reason.” Asked why it’s polarizing, Punk replied, “I tend to say how I feel, to a fault. I stand up for myself. A lot of people don’t like that. There is always friction. I will be as polite and as kind to anybody as I possibly can. When they step out of line, I’m kind of the guy that checks them.”

Currently, CM Punk maintains a fierce rivalry with Drew McIntyre. Both have set themselves the goal of making each other’s lives a living hell. Finally, after months of attacks and threats, both will be able to solve their problems in a ring. Punk and McIntyre will meet in a singles match at WWE SummerSlam with Seth Rollins as the special referee.
