Many surprises awaited WWE fans during the 2024 Royal Rumble event. A notable participant in the Rumble match was Pat McAfee, who suddenly returned to the commentary box. Unexpectedly, WWE inserted him into the Royal Rumble match, shocking fans with his return. 

The fact that McAfee was so involved during the occasion only served to highlight his triumphant homecoming. However, it seems that McAfee’s shocking entrance at the Royal Rumble 2024 was as surprising as the name suggests.

How did McAfee find out about his Royal Rumble entrance?

Pat McAfee kicked off the Royal Rumble with his entrance music and the joy of commentating at the event alongside his real-life friend Michael Cole. Reflecting on his experience in an interview, McAfee shared his excitement at returning to WWE for the commentary role offered to him for the evening. 

He said, “All of a sudden, at what 22? I’m in the Royal Rumble? Nobody gave me a heads-up about that,” McAfee states. “I got my cowboy boots on.” He also adds, “I’m not supposed to be in here. Why would I be here right now? I’m not prepared for this.” He expressed his honor at being part of the Royal Rumble and working alongside Cole and Corey Graves.

Regarding his unexpected appearance in the Royal Rumble match, McAfee admitted he had no prior knowledge of it but went along with the flow. Despite not being dressed for the occasion, McAfee entered the match briefly.

However, he humorously recounted his encounter with Bron Breakker and acknowledged he wasn’t prepared for the moment. McAfee decided to exit the ring, embracing the role of a “coward” for the night, ultimately returning to the commentary booth and enjoying the overall experience of the great show.

Cody Rhodes secured a back-to-back victory at the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, eliminating CM Punk to clinch the win. The final four included Drew McIntyre and WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther. Rhodes then gestured towards Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns in the suites.

Jey and Jimmy Uso started the match at #1 and #2, while Andrade returned at #4 but was eliminated by Bronson Reed. Bobby Lashley and Karrion Kross‘s confrontation led to both being eliminated. Bron Breakker, entering at #20, had an impressive run before being thrown out by Dominik Mysterio.

Omos returned to WWE at #21, and R-Truth entered after initially appearing in the women’s Royal Rumble. Truth was eliminated by Damian Priest after a hot tag from Mysterio. The final entrant was Sami Zayn. The match featured notable moments, including Pat McAfee entering and eliminating himself, adding excitement to the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event.
