Can Ronda Rousey bounce back from her Sandy Hook controversy, or is her reputation permanently tarnished?

It seems that Ronda Rousey is on a relentless mission to fix her image in the industry by any means possible. The former MMA superstar had an unceremonious WWE walkout after parting ways with her long-time tag teammate Shayna Baszler last year. Despite possessing immense talent and potential to be the generational superstar of both combat sports (WWE and UFC), the 37-year-old only garnered the frowned eyes of fans. Thanks to her countless controversial comments and gestures.

One of those dark clouds of dispute loomed large when Rousey made an insensitive comment on the infamous Sandy Hook Massacre 11 years back. Finally, the former WWE star realized where she went wrong and came up with a lengthy apology letter to the masses.

December 14, 2012, emerged as a black day in American history as Adam Lanza shot dead 26 people, including children, at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. The tragic mass slaughter was viewed as a staged incident by Rousey, who propagated the same theory on her social media handle. Quite obviously, it earned her a huge backlash from all across the world. Now, as a belated damage control of her statement, Rousey posted a long note saying she deserves all the hatred she received, and she took all the accountability for her words.

She sought an apology for all she caused hurt. However, the former WWE tag team champion didn’t take back her statement about Vince McMahon.

Ronda Rousey, 37, had always been at loggerheads with the ex-WWE chief during her tenure in the company. She publically bad-mouthed her former head honcho several times in the past. While comparing Triple H’s era to that of McMahon, Rousey noted anyone is better than Vince McMahon.

She had her last match in the company ring at SummerSlam 2023, where she took on her former best friend Shayna Baszler. After putting over Baszler in that match, Rousey left the building for once and all. To let people know about the inside politics of her profession and specifically the company she was affiliated with, the former UFC Champion released a memoir named ‘Our Fight’. The write-up largely featured her skirmish with authority figures, especially Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and Bruce Pritchard.

Rousey didn’t change her mind even a bit. In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, the veteran athlete continued her attack on the WWE mogul, saying that McMahon thwarted her ability to deliver splendid matches in WWE. Also, she blamed the former WWE Boss for nixing her match with Becky Lynch at WrestleMania. It will be interesting to see if it sparks another controversy among the IWC going further.
