Roman Reigns’ WrestleMania 40 Opponent Already in the Works, and It’s Not Dwayne Johnson

Throughout his wrestling career, Roman Reigns has made several enemies. Ever since Reigns has adorned the title of The Tribal Chief, his enemies have grown large in number. Although some fans may believe Reigns will need someone new to face if he keeps hold of his titles till WrestleMania 40, WWE is seemingly working to bring a much-wanted rematch for their fans to witness.

New reports have suggested that we may see Reigns wrestle his recent nemesis once again at the biggest event next year. Although the confirmation is yet to come from the promotion itself, the reports suggest a future possibility.

Who is Roman Reigns’ opponent going to be?

The American Nightmare may not be Reigns’ biggest opponent of all time, but the main event at WrestleMania 39 really left fans wanting more. Cody Rhodes lost the match to The Tribal Chief. However, he won a lot of hearts that day. This had WWE fans wanting a rematch between the two opponents. And reports suggest that it might already be under work.

GiveMeSport has recently reported that WWE might be setting up Reigns to face Rhodes in the near future. The reports also suggest that the match card could be reserved for WrestleMania 40 next year, taking place in Philadelphia. While for some this is great news, others may have wanted a whole other matchup for The Tribal Chief.

For the unversed, a storyline between Roman Reigns and his cousin, Dwayne Johnson was also in the works before the plans had to be dropped.

What happened to Roman Reigns vs The Rock?

Dwayne Johnson and Roman Reigns share deep family history. In a sense, the two can be called distant cousins. Both of them belong to the legendary Anoa’i family, so they are connected through kin from their grandparents’ times.

The two wrestlers have shared on-screen time before. However, rumors were there that the cousins might be facing each other at WrestleMania 39. This was because of some shots Reigns took at The Rock previously.

Since it had the potential to gain a vast amount of audience and also had a solid foundation for a story plot, WWE was trying to get through with it. However, because of Johnson’s prior commitments and not being match-fit, WWE dropped the plans.
