After nearly two decades, two of the biggest names of the Ring of Honor back in the day faced each other. With plenty on the line, CM Punk defeated Samoa Joe to proceed to the finals of the Owen Hart Cup.

However, before the bout began, Samoa Joe’s entrance was poked by a fan giving homage to Reigns. As Joe made his way to the ring, a camera panned toward a fan holding a sign which read, “Samoa Joe is my tribal chief.”

While the fan praised Samoa Joe on the poster; it was clearly an indication of Reigns’ influence not only in WWE but in AEW as well. Both Reigns and Joe belong to the tribal Samoan clan, and the fan gave an ode to Joe by referring to his tribal blood.

The tribute to Reigns might have stung Tony Khan, since it displayed the influence WWE has on AEW’s audience. As expected, the match was brutal and gritty with excellent performances from both Joe and Punk. In the end, Punk would come out victorious.

Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle once shared a heated rivalry during their time in both TNA and WWE. However, long since then Angle has retired, but still reflects back on his feud against Joe. Speaking on a recent episode of his podcast, Angle heaped praises on Joe.

During Angle’s debut for TNA, he broke Joe’s undefeated streak of 172 matches. However, Angle believed that he should not have been the one to do so. While praising Joe, he said “Joe is so damn good. He really gives you space. You know what? Samoans have been really good at pro wrestling. They all understand they all are incredible athletes.”
