Roman Reigns has had one of the most successful WWE runs in his career with the Tribal Chief persona. He’s been undefeated in singles matches since he won the WWE Universal Championship on August 30, 2020. Despite fans mocking him during his babyface run with ‘You can’t wrestle’ chants, his current accomplishment at SummerSlam has shut them down.

At SummerSlam, Reigns faced off against Jey Uso for the WWE Universal Championship. Even though Jey put up a good fight, he was unsuccessful at grabbing the title. However, Reigns did not go home with just the title; he had also accomplished something else.

Reigns is known for part-taking in big matches against big names. Be it John Cena or The Undertaker; Reigns has had matches with some of the biggest stars. What Reigns has yet to have in his solo career on the main roster is long PLE singles match. However, all this changed at SummerSlam 2023.

Wrestle Ops pointed out that the match between Jey Uso and Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship was the longest match Reigns has been in. This is the longest PPV singles match of his career while on the main roster. The match lasted over 36 minutes against Jey.

Many fans would quickly point out that the match would have been over much quicker without Solo Sikao and Jimmy interfering. But the match is counted from when the bell rings until the referee declares the winner. This accomplishment is an answer to all the fans who claimed that Reigns could not wrestle during his babyface run. The chats of ‘You can’t wrestle’ mocking Reigns during matches became a norm of that era.

The highly anticipated match saw Reigns pitted against his cousin Jey after Jey and Jimmy left the Bloodline. The match would act as a retribution stage for Jey to get back at his tyrannical cousin. However, things turned for the worst when Jey was stopped by his brother Jimmy near the end of the match. The shock of Jimmy’s betrayal led to Reigns picking up the win.

Is this the longest match in Reigns’s career?

This accomplishment comes as it is the longest PPV match that Reigns had while on the main roster. However, he has participated in longer matches during his WWE career. The longest came at 65 minutes long. This was at SmackDown in 2015 when Daniel Bryan teamed up with Reigns for a Tag Team Turmoil Match. This match also became the longest match in WWE SmackDown history.

Despite his participation in longer matches like the 7-Man gauntlet Match on Monday Night Raw, Reigns was not the last standing man in the match as Seth Rollins won the grueling match. This match is the longest in WWE history clocking in at 146 minutes or under two and a half hours.
