Will Roman Reigns' return at SummerSlam 2024 reignite the WWE universe or fall flat?

SummerSlam is earmarked to be a grand event with all the wrestlers that could show up at the PLE. Although WWE usually holds back and divides surprise appearances into various shows, big returns tend to happen only at PLEs. Many stars haven’t been seen in the Stamford-based company in a long time and could get a huge pop with a potential SummerSlam return.

The reason why the August PLE is the highlight here is because it is the closest one on the calendar for now. So, buckle up, as we may be witnessing some of these stars soon.

First off, the entire fanbase is expecting Roman Reigns to show up on the 3rd of August in Cleveland because of the developments in The Bloodline storyline so far and his younger cousin, Jimmy Uso, could also show up alongside him.

Charlotte Flair was last seen in the promotion in January, where she accidentally injured her knee in a match and was taken out of the arena on a stretcher. The severity of the injury suggested that she may not recover until the latter half of the year. Now that we have officially entered the latter half, could SummerSlam be it?

Another top female star who might show up in WWE again is Becky Lynch, who didn’t renew her contract after it expired in June 2024. Since then, there have been no updates about the “horsewoman of WWE” joining some other place. So, she may be planning to return home and the next PLE would be a good place to pick up where she left off.

Raquel Rodriguez last wrestled in February on Monday Night Raw and since hasn’t been seen. There have been no reports about her leaving the promotion, so we are still expecting her to show up. A similar story with Alexa Bliss, who still seems to be a WWE employee but hasn’t been on TV for so long. Due to recent developments in her personal life, she may not be ready to wrestle but we could see her return now that the Wyatt Sick6 has made their presence known and is missing the sixth member.

Will SummerSlam also have room for a big return?

The Rock was speculated to show up at SummerSlam last year but disappointed fans with his absence. Although he ended up delivering his part at WrestleMania XL, and during all the promos and segments before that, Dwayne Johnson still left us on a cliffhanger. He had a secret verbal exchange with the reigning WWE Undisputed Universal Champion on Monday Night Raw after Mania 40. Since the microphone didn’t quite catch it, fans believed that it would be revealed further down the line whenever he returned to the Stamford-based company. So, his showing up at SummerSlam would make perfect sense.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Roman Reigns' return at SummerSlam 2024 reignite the WWE universe or fall flat?

Have an interesting take?

With The Bloodline also in shambles and rising from the ashes again, Johnson could play an important role in the storyline moving further. There is a chance that he may not show up to wrestle as of yet and just cut a promo to lay the foundation for what could take place in the future. If he shows up, WWE may not introduce Roman Reigns alongside him because it won’t do justice to either of the wrestlers. So, the leading wrestling promotion will be making a tough choice if both the cousins are available to show up.

Which one out of all the above-mentioned names would you rather like to see at SummerSlam this year?
