Did WWE ruin Roman Reigns' babyface run, or was he always meant to be a heel?

Although Roman Reigns‘ character hasn’t picked an allegiance since his comeback, it seems like he is headed toward becoming a babyface. The wrestler who was once the top heel in the promotion will no longer be serving his ulterior motives of SmackDown domination. Instead, he is currently focused on a personal agenda that makes him oblivious to any other competition, including his former championship.

It seems like The Original Tribal Chief is turning into a babyface and while fans are surely getting the hang of it, WWE legend believes that the promotion needs to introduce more heels to us.

Friday Night SmackDown has too many baby faces at present. Before Randy Orton moved to Raw, there were even more. However, he had to shift brands as soon as Reigns arrived on SmackDown. When they were discussing the situation on the Busted Open Podcast, both Denise Salcedo and Mark Henry shared their thoughts on Kevin Owens’ potential heel turn.

On the blue brand show on 08/23, A-Town Down Under shared a video package of Kevin Owens‘ heel tendencies. While Henry wasn’t a fan of it, he said, “With Roman Reigns coming in now and being a baby face, somebody’s going to have to become a heel because now there’s going to be a new baby face on the block. You can’t have, you know, five babyfaces.

Have an interesting take?

Although Owens didn’t turn on the reigning Undisputed Universal Champion when he had the chance to, Henry thinks he must become a heel to maintain a good balance.

The Tribal Chief might continue as a babyface

Now that he is back in the Stamford-based company, Reigns might have developed a conscience that is otherwise missing in most heels. So, he is clearly having a change of heart and the storyline may gradually pitch him towards redeeming his old self. The pop that he received from the fans at SummerSlam was a testimony to the fact that they accept every gimmick that Reigns will continue in. Long ago, the hosts of the Busted Open Podcast had opined that there would be a time when the OTC would have to face his cousin, The Rock, somewhere down the line.

Since Reigns had already been predicted to return a babyface at the time, The Rock is to remain a heel. Considering how much fans loved this persona of him around WrestleMania XL, this may be the direction in which WWE moves forward. It would mean that Roman Reigns’ face personality will stay around for a long while. Especially because there are chances that this feud between the two cousins may not take place anytime soon.

Will there be more heel turns on the SmackDown roster to maintain the balance? Now that Roman Reigns appears to be on another hiatus, will WWE delay this process further?
