Roman Reigns vs. Tama Tonga: Who's the real powerhouse in wrestling today?

Roman Reigns is at loggerheads with the new Bloodline troop, especially Tama Tonga. The Tribal Chief was absent from WWE programming since WrestleMania 40. After a long period of wait, Reigns made his inevitable entry into the familial drama at SummerSlam. He stormed through the ring and leveled down the ego of Solo Sikoa by delivering a Superman Punch and a spear. The segment had a premature end. But in the August 9 episode of WWE SmackDown, the saga quickly started from where it left off.

The Original Tribal Chief came down from the ring and embroiled himself in a brawl with Sikoa after the latter’s boastful verbal jibe about the Ula Fala necklace. Reigns almost downed Sikoa for the second time, but Tama Tonga was there to save him. He ambushed Reigns and snatched the Ula Fala for his Tribal Chief (Solo Sikoa). That said, the heated segment between Reigns and Tonga seems to be a part of long-term storytelling, as it appears that they have heat against each other in real life.

The best and most intriguing part about WWE is that the future is deeply hinged with the past here. Fans take immense joy in deciphering things beforehand through the small bit of clues the creative purposely leaves behind in a trail. The case of Roman Reigns coming across Tama Tonga for a confrontation has been on the rumors card for 6-long-years.

While the two stars never ever met each other inside the ring, they had a bitter fallout over social media. Several years back, during Tonga’s NPJW run, the superstar called out the internet nerds in a promo, culminating in the temporary shutdown of his X handle.

But when he got his X account back, he blamed Roman for snitching. This led to back and forth between them. Got the #Snitch. Your bark can’t seem to get OVER your Yard for me to hear you. My yard has no fences, come test your skills here anytime. “Jealousy is a bitch trait”- what album is that from? #RomanTheRat,” Tonga wrote.

Replying to this, Roman Reigns wrote, “I actually doubled your lil videos views for you in like 4 hours. You should be thankful. Thanks for the laughs tho!”

Then, Tonga even emulated the Big Dog’s signature move on TV and invited him for a skill test. But the most notable part is that the bout was apparently not personal.

The Bloodline member deemed the exchange as casual

Some believe the exchange looks like a kayfabe angle rather than a real-life heat. In fact, the Tongan star once addressed his social media war of words with the Big Dog and noted, “All positive for me. To me, it’s nothing. If the fans think so, OK, great. He’s up there a level with exposure and all it does it is put me out there with him. So that’s all positive. It’s all good. Love it.”

“I have no negativity with it. And we had a lot of spat, back and forth but he knows now I ain’t one to back down. But it’s all good, we have that understanding.”

Moving ahead, Tonga also seems to be lured by the position of Tribal Chief in his family, as he could topple Solo Sikoa. If that really happens, we can eventually get to see a single grudge fight between Tama Tonga and Roman Reigns. However, it could take time for something like this to develop.

On SmackDown earlier this month, Tonga was looking at the Ula Fala (The traditional Samoan necklace for the king) in a greedy manner, before handing it to Solo Sikoa. While giving it to Sikoa, the wrestler looked quite reluctant. Something might be cooking in his mind!
