The Rock, the wrestling icon that once inspired cheers and admiration universally is now inciting boos and hate. The reason? The Brahma Bull has disregarded all the current WWE storylines and shoe-horned himself into the biggest match of the year. The marquee WWE title match at the main event of WrestleMania. While Cody Rhodes has been forcibly silenced on the matter, this doesn’t seem to be the case with Triple H.
Triple H and Dwayne Johnson have always been a highly toxic and explosive cocktail. The King of Kings has been ruling the creative direction of everything that was happening in the WWE since being handed the reigns. However, The Rock seems to have stepped onto his territory and also has his hands on the most valuable piece of treasure. Is this the beginning of a new backstage hurricane in WWE?
Does this mean that WWE will face a real power struggle?

Triple H had promised the WWE Universe last year that Cody Rhodes would get his shot at the WWE title once again. While the fans had to wait for an entire year for The American Nightmare to get this shot, The Game delivered on his promise. However, the sudden change in the status quo has led to Dwayne Johnson snatching the long-awaited chance from Rhodes.
Was this not known to Triple H? Is this change really last minute? Going by the reports, Dwayne Johnson had already finalized a WrestleMania match against Reigns in the initial days of 3rd January.
Even Ex-WWE Superstar Ryback recently released a YouTube video wherein he said, “This isn’t a prediction, it’s a spoiler, to quote Oswalt Cobblepot aka Paul Heyman. Guys, what you are seeing play out is TKO is putting in the pieces that they need to replace within those walls in WWE.” He also noted the almost-certain possibility of a dark chapter in the Dwayne Johnson versus Triple H saga.
Ryback mentioned, “And what you’re going to see, you’re going to see Triple H fired, done. You’re going to see Bruce Prichard fired, and done. You’re going to see Michael Hayes fired, done… A lot more is coming out, a lot more. And it may not happen right away, overnight, but the wheels are in motion.” Unsurprisingly, these statements were a shocker to many.
The Royal Rumble was almost a month away, and thus, the creative head of WWE must have known about it. And Cody’s Royal Rumble win should have changed that. Speculation arises about a power struggle between Johnson, a TKO board member, and Triple H, WWE’s Content Head, given their history of discord during the Attitude Era. But when were the seeds of something so big planted?
The historical rivalry between Dwayne Johnson and Triple H
Triple H has been a real-life antagonist in WWE throughout his career. While it was all part of the script for him earlier, the Curtain Call mishap at MSG changed everything. The animosity of The Game took over since then, sending the real Paul Levesque in the background. This led him to develop very personal heat with many stars, which included Dwayne Johnson.
There was a time when The Rock was having an amazing run as the Intercontinental Champion. However, Triple H didn’t really like this fact. So, he tried to use his influence to dethrone Dwayne Johnson and sought for Bret Hart to be the one to defeat him. However, Hart refused to go forward with this plan.

This was mentioned in his book titled ‘Hitman’, wherein he clearly stated that Triple H had very real issues with Dwayne Johnson. After all, even The Rock butted heads with him and Stephanie McMahon. But, Johnson went and became a Hollywood Star and Triple H became the creative head. This arrangement worked perfectly well until now when The Rock is back on Hunter’s turf.
Dwayne Johnson now holds the status of a TKO board member, and thus, has instantly become more powerful than Triple H. This is bound to invite friction between two people who have had tussles in the past.
