Is Ricky Starks the next big thing WWE needs, or just another overhyped talent?

Ricky Starks‘ inactivity on the AEW roster has led to some fans believing that he may be leaving the company behind. What would be the best next destination for a beloved AEW star, according to fans, once his contract ends? Of course, it’s WWE as per the rumors. To top it all off, the wrestler in question is a free agent now, as per reports, because his contract with Tony Khan ended back in July 2024. Unfortunately for fans, he hasn’t revealed anything about his next decision in the wrestling world, allowing us to connect the dots in the meantime.

It is nothing new to see AEW and WWE exchanging talents after their contract is over; wrestlers jump ships all the time. This is why it’s valid that fans feel like Ricky Starks could be WWE-bound. While there haven’t been any official confirmations or reports about the same, the latest LA Knight segment provides a clue.

Before his first title defense on Friday Night SmackDown 08/23, the Megastar issues a challenge during a brief backstage interview. He invited roster stars for an open challenge that will take place at Bash in Berlin. There aren’t many wrestlers currently in sight who will accept this.

According to the fans who came across this segment on the internet, WWE may be setting up a grand stage for Ricky Starks to pick up a storyline in the middle and not start from the beginning.

Fans pitch in Ricky Starks to join WWE

The speculation started with this reaction, where a fan also added one more name to the possibility. However, Ricky Starks is still standing out from any possible name that you may pitch for the match. The last time that we heard something about his wrestling hiatus was when Starks complained about not being on TV.

Have an interesting take?

The post had asked fans to speculate who might be the face that challenges The Megastar in the leading wrestling promotion. The viewer in question sounded unsure, but fans are enjoying this game while it lasts and Ricky Starks would be a fiery addition to the storyline. However, the chances of that happening seem less as Tony Khan recently quashed the rumors of Starks being a free agent.

“Ricky’s been a great star in AEW. He’s been a champion here and has had great matches here. I think very highly of Ricky. He’s somebody that has been here for several years, and he’s under contract in AEW. He’s a well-regarded wrestler here in AEW,” Tony Khan revealed during the AEW All In media call.

There is a chance that the AEW star will be introduced to the crowd here on Friday Night SmackDown right before the PLE in Berlin. However, if that is the case, then Ricky Starks would have to face LA Knight at Bash in Berlin and neither his victory nor his loss would be a good idea for an opening match. So, his appearance as an interferer at the PLE might be the only way that WWE introduces him.

One more unsure fan wished to make the perfect guess at the future opponent for the reigning United States Champion. The lack of surety only displays how keenly fans want Ricky Starks to join the active WWE roster. While he has previously been tipped to sign with NXT, the main roster may also prove to be his place.

Somebody appears to be praying to see the AEW superstar become a part of the upcoming PLE. If the Stamford-based company has already decided for him to debut in Berlin, then Ricky could end up getting a huge pop on his first day in WWE.
