Ric Flair is one of the greatest legends in the history of wrestling. ‘The Nature Boy’ has had a successful professional career of almost half a century in which he won more than 40 championships, including 16 world titles that the WWE recognizes! But wait, why do we say recognized by the WWE? Well, because Ric Flair has always claimed that he has reigned on more occasions.
The WWE accounts for Flair’s eight NWA World Championships, six WCW World Championships, and two WWF World Championships. But they do not count his reigns with the NWA and with WCW, since some of those victories were not televised. But despite the WWE just counting his 16 world championship wins, no other superstar has been able to surpass this record. John Cena is the closest, as he too has won 16 World Championships. However, there is another superstar, according to Ric Flair, who might win the title. Who is it, you ask? Well, it’s none other than Randy Orton.

On the Busted Open Podcast, Ric Flair joined Dave LaGreca, Tommy Dreamer, and Mark Henry to discuss all things pro wrestling. One major topic that follows Flair everywhere he goes is his record championship reigns, so it was no wonder that the legend was asked about who, according to him, can break his record. While everyone expected him to simply state Cena’s name and move on, he added another contender who truly is a future Hall of Famer, Randy Orton.
Flair said, “Another guy that could, in my eyes, would deserve to be the world champion or break that record would be Randy Orton. Randy’s had good, and he’s been doing it. You think about it, Mark, all you guys, to be on top for 20 years, not, not, not just good, but on top for 20 years like John and Randy have. That’s a long time to be on top.”

The WWE superstar has 25 years of experience in the business, during which time he has set some records that will hardly be surpassed in the future. ‘The Viper’ has won 20 titles in the company, with 14 of them being world championships. Orton began his path to being a legend at SummerSlam 2004, where he defeated Chris Benoit to win his first World Heavyweight Championship at just 24 years old. Beating the previous record, which was held by Brock Lesnar, who achieved such a feat at the age of 25. Today, almost two decades later, Orton’s record still stands.
Orton is currently in a feud with The Bloodline on Friday Night SmackDown. At the same time, ‘The Viper’ tried to add a new achievement to his record, becoming King of the Ring.
