Rey Mysterio Reveals WWE Legend’s Heartwarming Gesture After Eddie Guerrero’s Death: “That Speaks of the Type of Human Being He Is”

WWE legend Rey Mysterio shared a sweet story involving WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels. This story comes from WWE 2K22’s Showcase Mode. Rey is the featured showcase WWE Superstar for the game. The game has a mode where one can play through Rey’s entire WWE career. They also include pieces of interviews with Rey as the story progresses.

Rey Mysterio was close friends with the late great Eddie Guerrero. After Guerrero’s untimely passing, Rey and the entire wrestling world were heartbroken. Eddie was an extremely popular wrestler, incredible in the ring, and beloved by fans. In the Showcase Mode of WWE 2K22, Rey Mysterio relives the time and tells a tale of a heartwarming gesture towards him by fellow WWE legend Shawn Michaels.

Rey talked about how it was hard to make sense that Eddie was really gone. However, he thought of how he and others could honor Eddie’s legacy. Rey said that no matter what, Eddie loved the business and always wanted the show to go on. On the November 14, 2005, edition of Monday Night Raw, WWE paid tribute to Eddie. Rey faced Shawn that night in a match that started as a sweet gesture.

Rey said, “I did expect to wrestle Shawn one day, but not under those terms. One of the greatest legends in WWE history.” Rey added. “By Shawn Michaels asking me if I had the energy, the courage, to have a match against him that night? He didn’t have to choose me, but he did. Because he knew Eddie would have loved it. That speaks of the type of human being he is.”

Rey went on to say that they wanted to put on a show that Eddie would be proud of.

The two indeed end up having the match. Rey said he found himself in a one-on-one match with a living legend in Shawn Michaels.

“Of course, I wanted to win for myself, for my fans, and for Eddie.”

Rey further said that he knew Shawn was also grieving, but he would still give his best like Eddie would have wanted. The two WWE legends gave a stellar match, as expected of them. Rey Mysterio indeed won the match against Shawn Michaels, which was big for him at that point in his career.

However, most importantly, they both paid tribute to one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, Latino Heat Eddie Guerrero.
