Rey Mysterio vs Seth Rollins was SmackDown’s strongest match by quite a mile. The two agile men dodged each other’s offence and delivered some cool spots in a very good No Holds Barred match.

Unfortunately, Rey Mysterio will be reeling after missing his signature move in a very unfortunate botch. Mysterio is one of the smoothest wrestlers in the world. Botches are just not part of his repertoire.

This week was an unfortunate exception in a brilliant career full of high-flying moves. The word unfortunate is being used continuously to bring out the condition of Rey Mysterio’s body and the toll he has put it through.

Mysterio is 45 years old. He is now competing alongside his son Dominik, who is 23. Mysterio’s veteran body of work has a very rich legacy. Such an incredible legacy, that if he were to retire today, the WWE Universe would be satisfied with his decision.

Rey Mysterio vs Seth Rollins: No Holds Barred match

The botch came during his No Holds Barred match against Seth Rollins on SmackDown. The two displayed their crisp chemistry and pulled up some flashy spots.

Seth hit Rey with a powerbomb through a table from the second rope! That did not manage to put the luchador away, who fought like his life depended on it.

The most innovative spot of the night came when Rey Mysterio hit a sliding splash on the outside. However, Rollins wasn’t just lying on the floor, he was lying prone on the steel steps. Mysterio had to perfectly time the slide and executed the move to perfection.

The match was fought to an intense closing stretch. The botched 619 was supposed to lead to the finish, which Rey and Rollins tried once more and nailed it. Mysterio climbed to the top rope, paid tribute to Eddie Guerrero with Eddie’s signature taunt, and hit the match winning frog splash.

Buddy Murphy involved in the finish

It is important to note that Buddy Murphy had a huge role to play in the finish. He handed Rollins a chair, but hoodwinked him by blasting the chair through his face with a high knee. This led to the finish, and a victory for Rey Mysterio over his most vicious foe. Unfortunate botch aside, this was a fine match between two great wrestlers.
