2020 has been pretty different, with wrestling fans watching their favorite sport without an audience and without the usual fanfare. However, one thing is still the same – WWE’s way of booking factions. Unfortunately, Mustafa Ali led Retribution is the latest faction in that list.

Retribution losing its way?

Retribution first made their presence known at the WWE Performance Center when they invaded both Raw and SmackDown. Initially, it looked like some sort of Nexus reboot with masked individuals.

As it has grown over the months, things are not really going the way they expected. Mustafa Ali’s revelation of being Retribution’s leader generated some buzz, but the faction’s momentum had already fizzled out in the weeks leading up to it.

The Fiend destroyed all members of Retribution a few weeks ago in the opening segment of Raw. The Hurt Business convincingly defeated them multiple times as well. The only big victory that’s gone their way has been the one over Team Raw via a schoolboy roll-up (yes, the doomed roll-up).

Tensions rise in the faction

Winning ways don’t come often for Retribution. They couldn’t go past The Hurt Business and are now feuding with Ricochet. Mustafa Ali won his match against Ricochet a few weeks ago on Raw. Last week, SlapJack and Reckoning both lost their respective matches.

Ali was not happy at all. He was pretty vocal about how he feels. For a moment, we thought he’d go mad and throw a fit. Thankfully, it was just short of that.

This week, Ricochet and Dana Brooke took on SlapJack and Reckoning. The result? It’s obvious, Retribution lost….again. Mustafa Ali wasn’t impressed this time either. The man who believes there is no failure in Retribution saw his troops fail miserably two weeks in a row.

WWE really needs to work their way around Retribution at the earliest. There are talented members in the faction whose talents will go to waste if they continue to job. Adding the hacker element was nice, but making the group feel credible is important.

WWE desperately should do that to save the faction, or if they’ve already lost faith, then expect the faction to break up sooner than later. The drama over the past couple weeks may just be the beginning of the end for Retribution.
