The Rhodes vs Lesnar SummerSlam match was better than anyone could’ve expected.  Rhodes won clean, and the unscripted gesture at the end put both stars over with the Detroit fans. Once the match was done, rumors began that  Lesnar would not be seen in any WWE-related material until the buildup of WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia.

According to a news report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer, there could be a change in the original plans. Meltzer began by talking about the injury Lesnar sustained during the match. He also mentioned, “He put Rhodes over clean, shook his hand, turned himself back babyface in doing so.”

Lesnar turned heel by attacking babyface Rhodes the night after WrestleMania 39. His actions at SummerSlam have reverted him to being a babyface. The upcoming WWE PLE Payback and Fastlane will not feature Lesnar. It is left to be seen if Lesnar will appear at the Saudi Arabia show.

The unplanned SummerSlam moment and what it could mean

The ending segment post-Rhodes winning was completely unplanned, according to Triple H. The Beast hugged Rhodes and congratulated him on his victory. He proceeded to raise Rhodes’s hand before leaving. The moment felt genuine to the fans who cheered for both, effectively turning Lesnar babyface. Triple H said this could’ve happened because the two men were overwhelmed by emotion.

According to former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. the gesture that Lesnar made could have a deeper meaning than what meets the eye. During his recent episode of Wrestling with Freddie, he explained how Lesnar could be playing the established talent putting young guys over. He explained that Lesnar could be contemplating retiring and would like to have fun with his leftover time in the ring.
