The Rock almost faced his cousin, Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. However, some unspecified issues finally led to the cancellation of this originally planned bout. The Rock once again expressed his desire for the match in Philadelphia next year at WrestleMania but it turns out the fans may have to wait longer to see the Anoa’i family members face off against each other.

Ahead of a staggering return to the WWE ring, The Rock confirmed his intent of meeting Reigns from the opposite side of the ring and that too on the “Grandest stage of them All.” With this, the already existing rumors started to run wild with fans desperately connecting every dot to envision the dream match. That said, this doesn’t necessarily imply that the match is really happening.

They might give more priority to the future generations of wrestling and have bigger plans for the future. A report suggests as such Reigns vs The Rock may not happen at WrestleMania 40 at all.

Considering all the angles, Sports Illustrated added one more to their latest report to indicate a massive red signal to The Rock vs Roman Reigns potential showdown. According to them, The decision to make the match official neither depends upon the fans’ will nor upon The Rock’s personal intent.

Sports Illustrated noted, “Short-term, there is nothing that can compare to a return from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. But after speaking with multiple sources close to WWE, the decision about WrestleMania will not be The Rock’s to make, nor is the main event even a topic of substance. There are currently no plans for this to happen.”

The report also confirmed that multiple sources revealed that currently there’s no such plan for The Rock vs Roman Reigns’ much hyped WrestleMania match.

Now, with this report, it seems like WWE didn’t step back from the plan of featuring the American Nightmare in the marquee match for the title for a second year running.
