Prominent wrestling journalist Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that there has been an inclusion of a special clause in the contract for CM Punk. Though it is not confirmed yet Sean Ross states that he was informed by higher-ups in the WWE about the surprising details of Punk’s contract.

CM Punk’s contract is linked to his stay at AEW

Fightful provided an update on the contract of CM Punk with WWE. The report says Those that we heard from said he was on his best behavior as anticipated, and with good reason – some in WWE were told by higher ups that there is a behavior clause associated with his contract, which we’ve yet to confirm.”

The inclusion of a behavior clause could be attributed to Punk’s controversial exit from AEW earlier this year. Punk also had many heated backstage moments with fellow superstars, and had been in a fight with Jack Perry which led to his ousting. There were reports of Punk’s backstage heat with many big names including Kenny Omega.

Punk’s behavior so far has been reported positive and it is said his backstage attitude on RAW was good. WWE would like to safeguard itself against any trouble and that is why perhaps this clause could be there.

That said, Punk’s return to WWE so far has been great for the company with Survivor Series breaking several records and RAW doing high viewership numbers.

CM Punk’s RAW return drives RAW’s numbers

Post Survivor Series RAW garnered a viewership of  1.88 million viewers, with 863.000 in the 18-49 demo. The show was up by 29% in total viewership and up 34% in the 18-49 demo from last week. These numbers are up 13% and 64% from 2022, respectively.

The viewership was RAW’s highest since the SummerSlam fallout show, while the demo rating is the best since the Raw After WrestleMania this year. This also meant RAW did well despite being up against Monday Night Football. The show saw segments from Randy Orton and CM Punk, with “The Viper” starting the show and the Chicago star closing the night with a promo.

Thus it seems CM Punk’s return to WWE has been fruitful to WWE and will get more eyeballs on the product. So it will make sense for both parties to work in the best interests of each other. The reports of a “behavioral clause” in Punk’s contract suggest WWE is keen to avoid any debacle and Punk may have had to assure them before they decided to sign him.
