The wrestling world lost Michael Jones, aka Virgil, on 28th February 2024. The former wrestler was a legend in the industry and saddened several hearts with his unfortunate passing. Although the reason for his death is unknown, we know so far that he passed away in the hospital in the morning and his death was ‘peaceful’.
Since then, social media platforms have been flooded with several fans sending prayers to Jones’ family and also commemorating him on the upsetting occasion. The entire fanbase was also joined by other legends of the industry who have come across Mike Jones at some point in their lives.
Virgil’s career in and out of WWE

Virgil started his wrestling career officially as ‘Soul Train Jones’ in 1985 in a promotion called CWA. The following year, fans saw Virgil entering WWE for the first time in his wrestling run. He served many years with the Stamford-based company but also signed contracts with other promotions in between. One of his most iconic moments was the time when Jones turned on Ted DiBiase, despite being his bodyguard.

Jones officially retired from wrestling in the year 2000 but started making appearances again in 2006. In 2010, we saw him return to WWE. His most recent appearances took place in AEW, in the years 2019 and 2020, where he returned with his first-ever ring name, ‘Soul Train Jones’.
Soon after his unfortunate demise, fans started recalling the best moments of Jones’ career and wishing a peaceful rest for him. Apart from these fans, some wrestling industry veterans also joined in to send prayers to Virgil’s family.
