Roman Reigns made his surprising return at WWE SummerSlam 2020 following a brief hiatus. He allied himself with the ultimate heel manager, Paul Heyman.

Just one week after his return, he clinched the WWE Universal title off of Bray Wyatt at Payback. The “Tribal Chief” is now on his second reign as the Universal Champion.

The week after Payback, SmackDown held a number one contender match for Roman’s title. However, the promising contender Big E was forced out of the match due to an earlier assault.

As a result of which Paul Heyman and Reigns decided to let the champ’s real-life cousin, Jey Uso, content in his stead.

The returning Jey Uso eventually won the match and “made his family proud too.” The cousin duo will now face each other in the upcoming WWE Clash of Champions 2020.

Why Roman Reigns chose his cousin Jey Uso as his opponent?

Many fans are raising their eyebrows wondering the reasons behind Uso’s call up as Reigns’ opponent. As Baron Corbin accurately pointed out last week, fans are accusing WWE of “nepotism.” The claim has gathered momentum considering how Reigns is in Vince McMahon’s good books.

According to Dropkick DiSKussions podcast, Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue revealed that Roman Reigns, as a returning superstar, got to choose his own opponent.

He said, “I’m sure the discussion did take place during the period in which WWE was convincing him to return. So it may be an extra selling point for example, ‘Oh, Roman, if you return we’ll have you work with this person or this person.”

WWE knows Family vs Family is a foolproof storyline. Previously, feuds between the Hart Brothers, Hardy Brothers, and The Bella Twins were immensely successful. With declining ratings, WWE is not taking any chances with the world title.

Another far-fetched possibility might be, WWE is planning The Rock’s return in the next WrestleMania. Since The Rock, Uso, and Reigns belong to the Anoa’i Family, his return in the Family vs Family storyline seems plausible.
