Did Netflix dodge a bullet by scrapping Hulk Hogan's movie, or did they miss a golden opportunity?

Hulk Hogan was supposed to be one of the few wrestlers to have a movie made about him. However, it appears that his grand ambition will not come true. Yes, you heard that right as Todd Phillips, who was planning to create a major biographical film about Hogan, has canceled his plans. The movie was supposed to be huge and these expectations for the film stemmed from the fact that it included so many well-known celebrities. So what went wrong?

The exact reason for cancellation is unknown, although a variety of factors play into it. Chris Hemsworth, who was supposed to portray the lead in the film, never signed a contract. Moreover, despite the movie being conceived, it appears that a screenplay was never devised for the movie. As a result, earmarked director Todd Phillips did not see the whole thing coming together. Netflix also passed on the production of the movie after encountering various roadblocks for the making of the movie.

According to Hogan, the other reason the movie is being scrapped is a business issue. Recently, The Hulkster suggested that business problems have been cited as the cause for Netflix’s departure. Following this, Phillips, who helmed Joker and the upcoming sequel of the movie, decided to move on from the project. The director simply stated, “That’s not going to come together for me.”

Even if the movie has been canceled for the time being, it seems Hogan still thinks there remains a potential that it may be revisited in the future.

Have an interesting take?

As you are aware, Hogan was recently featured on the Insight with Chris Van podcast, where he disclosed that he still believes that if everyone involved in the film becomes free at some point in the future, production could start again. He stated, “My life rights and stuff are somewhere else now and there’s a lot of things that are getting ready to happen. Hopefully, [director] Todd Phillips and Chris Hemsworth will still want to play, there’s still a huge opportunity there.”

This implies that supporters of the WWE legend need not be disappointed, since there is still a potential for the film to be created. Although, for the time being, it is quite accurate that the project has been canceled for the reasons stated above. What are your opinions on the movie scrappage?
