According to reports, WWE has released Lars Sullivan. The behemoth has been absent from WWE since October 2020, and his time at the company has ended. Sullivan was a very controversial figure and was punished by the WWE for inappropriate comments he made online. Some might say his release was overdue, but how did WWE decide to fire him on a random Tuesday.
Lars Sullivan released from WWE
There have been speculations about his release, and the most obvious one points to lack of creative direction. With WrestleMania season abound, WWE’s writers and creative team are working hard to make this season feel special. A wrestler who hasn’t appeared on live television since October might not even cross their minds.

However, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter thinks otherwise. According to him, Sullivan did not appear for TV tapings, which annoyed Vince McMahon. The CEO of the WWE was a fan of Sullivan and wanted to strap a rocket to his back, but the Freak frequently did not show up for work.
The most infamous incident of Sullivan not showing up for work was in January 2019. Sullivan was supposed to start a rivalry with John Cena, but could not wrestle after an alleged panic attack. Whether it was the pressure of facing Cena or an excuse to get out of work, Sullivan’s reasons for the anxiety attack are unknown.

Lars Sullivan was booked to be a dominant monster in NXT. He smashed jobbers and even took out the top stars to pave his way to the NXT Championship. Although he lost his title shot against Aleister Black, Sullivan looked like a beast, and was an interesting prospect. One can’t help but imagine Vince McMahon drooling over this hulking monster of a man.
He made his main roster debut in 2019, attacking Kurt Angle on Raw. The Freak then targeted Matt Hardy and an array of WWE legends, but it did not amount to anything. Sullivan only made one main roster appearance at WWE Super Showdown in Saudi Arabia. He faced Lucha House Party in a one-on-three handicap match.

His last appearance came in October 2020, where he defeated Chad Gable in a squash match. That match led to Gable transitioning from Shorty G back into his original ring name. Even in defeat, Gable came out looking like a winner, while Lars was forgotten once again.
