CM Punk had one of the most historic promos of all time 12 years ago. It became so popular in the wrestling world that its citizens gave it a distinct name – Pipebomb. The infamous Pipebomb took place in 2011, when ‘The Straight Edge Superstar’ took out all his frustrations about WWE and Vince McMahon in a worked shoot.

One interesting detail that caught the WWE Universe’s attention was that Punk was wearing an iconic Stone Cold Steve Austin T-shirt during his pipebomb promo. Over the years, there have been many assumptions about why he wore that T-shirt. Let’s dive deep and explore the real reason behind it.

In episode 6 of the Dropping Character podcast, ‘The Straight Edge Superstar’ revealed the actual reason he wore the t-shirt from Austin’s merchandise. He said, “I was wearing a Stone Cold shirt because I was leaving and the company stopped producing CM Punk shirts.”

He added, “When I went to the crate to grab a shirt, they did not have any and I grabbed the first shirt I saw and I went, ‘Steve, cool’, put it on. I grabbed it because it was a shirt that was there and they didn’t have any CM Punk shirts, you know?”

Austin was one of McMahon’s arch-nemesis at the time and everyone presumed that Punk was making a statement by wearing the t-shirt. Many heads even pointed toward the Punk vs. Austin match that was getting a lot of attention during those days. However, none of these were the real reason. ‘The Best in the World’ did not plan to wear the shirt. But do you know what part of the pipebomb segment was planned?
