CM Punk doesn’t do drugs. He doesn’t even drink or smoke. Just like his straight-edge character in WWE, he follows a straight-edge lifestyle in real life. For those who do not know what it is, it is a subculture characterized by its members choosing to abstain from alcohol, tobacco, and recreational drugs. Some even follow a vegetarian or vegan diet and do not use caffeine or prescription drugs.

CM Punk became a straight edge because of his father

CM Punk’s father had a gigantic hand in him adopting a straight-edge lifestyle. The star himself has confessed it in the past. Even Chris Jericho and Bruce Prichard have spoken about it. The Chicago-based native’s father was an alcoholic. Growing up, he didn’t have a normal relationship with his father, due to the latter’s drinking problem.

Alcoholism has severe effects on families, which is what happened to the WWE star and his family, too. His father, being a drunkard, gave birth to many problems, which is what made him develop feelings of dislike for his dad. After realizing how badly alcohol consumed his father and his family, he vowed to never touch it.

That’s how ‘The Best in the World’ became a follower of the straightedge lifestyle. His friends and family have confirmed that he refrains from the consumption of booze. However, there was one time when he did drink.

The one time when Punk drank alcohol

While Punk absolutely refuses to drink, even during parties and celebrations, there was a time when he did consume alcohol. It was just one shot, and he did it as a tribute. In 2017, Bruce Prichard on the Something to Wrestle podcast revealed this to the world.

He said that ‘The Second City Saint’ took a shot of alcohol during Harley Race‘s birthday. Everyone was drinking and Punk took a shot out of respect for the eminent personality, as Race had asked him to do it. Thinking that one shot wouldn’t do him any harm, Punk drank that day.
