Hikuleo has been in the headlines for a few days now because of the predictions regarding his WWE debut. The Tongan wrestler is rumored to show up in the Stamford-based company because his NJPW contract reportedly ended in June 2024. The speculation is that he can then sign with WWE to show up in July.
This, combined with the recent reports of WWE filing a trademark for the name “Talla Tonga”, point toward a potential debut. Even though Hikuleo is already a an established ring name, Wrestling Observer Live hosts talked about why the promotion may be changing it.
Potential reason behind Hikuleo’s rumored new name

As reported earlier, WWE had filed a trademark for “Talla Tonga”. Although no further details emerged over the benefactor of the name. Hikuleo’s NJPW contract expiring made the internet connect the dots. Bryan Alvarez claimed during the Wrestling Observer Live that the name was already good to be used in the ring. This is when he further added, “What’s wrong with Hikuleo? I like Hikuleo. Yeah, I mean, sort of why, but I guess it’s not a mighty name. It doesn’t have enough sharpness to it for merchandising purposes.”

Alvarez also said Hikuleo’s name change could be because he is a tall wrestler. So, the name ‘Talla Tonga’ suits him if WWE has put the wheels in motion for signing him. However, the podcaster in question is also afraid that the involvement of too many members of the family in The Bloodline can dull the hold the stable has on the audience.
Should the WWE not insert Hikuleo into the compelling Bloodline story?
We have already been officially introduced to two additional wrestlers who were not the original members of the stable, Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa. Now, there are teasers that their sibling, Hikuleo, could join forces with them as a heel. Talking about this potential storyline in WWE, Alvarez expressed his skepticism about the same during the live podcast.

He exemplified NWO’s time in WCW. The faction started with a few select members. Although the constant addition of new personalities emerged as a grand spectacle for fans to witness, it eventually stopped working in the stable’s favor. This is what Alvarez is worried will end up happening with The Bloodline as well.
Even if Hikuleo comes in as Talla Tonga, it may not necessarily benefit The Bloodline, despite being an impactful name.
