As the former General Manager of Monday Night Raw, Paul Heyman had a rocky term. Following a sharp decline in viewership of Raw, Heyman was unexpectedly fired from the job by Vince McMahon.

Since then, there has been a lot of fog over the entire issue. However, it seems as though we may finally have closure on the event. In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani of ESPN, Heyman himself revealed his parting moments with WWE as the General Manager.

Although most fans may have expected a more salty or controversial end, Paul Heyman handed his dismissal with the utmost professionalism. Vince McMahon did not let the issue spoil their decades-long relationship either.

Paul Heyman saw an initial success as the General Manager of Raw. He was responsible for the groundwork of a lot of feuds that we see today on the red brand.

However, the manager found his brand in troubled waters when the pandemic spread. From the last WWE Episode with a live audience in February- March, Raw saw a steep decline in viewership.

From its yearly average of 2,400,000 viewers, the show dipped below the 2 million mark. The steep decline concerned a lot of the stakeholders who had an immediate meeting with Vince McMahon.

Paul Heyman was replaced due to Raw’s poor performance

As part of the remedial measures provided by Vince McMahon, Paul Heyman was to be replaced as the General Manager. Taking up the vacant seat would be the experienced Bruce Prichard, who has since been in charge of the storylines on Raw.

After a lot of changes, Prichard and McMahon managed to plug the hole in Raw and stabilise the viewership. While SmackDown continues to stay above the 2 million mark, Raw steadily climbs back up the ladder.
