WWE decided to release a lot more names from its roster, but this time, it cut down on talents from the main roster rather than NXT. Fans did not expect the sudden news, which is why the news of established names like Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, Ruby Riott, and Lana shocked the WWE Universe.

Fans have been looking for an explanation to know why such big names were let off, and many theories have risen up over the days. However, as expected, the reason was obvious and revealed to the locker room minutes after the announcement was made.

PWInsider revealed the following message, which was apparently sent to all Superstars. The message explained the reason for the releases:

“Due to budget cuts, the following talent were released today. Braun Strowman, Lana, Buddy Murphy, Santana Garrett, Ruby Riott, and Aleister Black.”

The message was sent by WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis. As WWE returns to live shows, the company is undoubtedly looking at some additional financial expenses which may arise, and these may have been the ‘necessary measures’ required.

WWE quickly cutting corners could signify something big

However, there are plenty of speculations that have risen up over why WWE suddenly decided to cut corners. 16 time World Champion John Cena has teased a return to the ring, and Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer did report that WWE was in talks about bringing Cena back in time for the live shows.

Furthermore, Edge’s failure to dethrone Roman Reigns as the Universal Champions leaves room for The Rock, who fans believe will make the legendary return. Fans see this feud as potentially the greatest of all time.

Right now, pairing Cena or The Rock with Roman Reigns would be on the levels of a Hogan vs Andre. A legendary showdown is what Vince McMahon has his eyes on for SummerSlam.

Brock Lesnar could make a much-awaited return

Another plausible explanation would be the return of Brock Lesnar himself. It’s no secret that ‘The Beast Incarnate’ commands a heavy pay package, which is why WWE could be putting aside the numbers for his return.

The company has lost heavily due to the absence of live audiences which has forced it to make a few adjustments. The lack of an entire revenue source is probably why the releases have become a necessity.
