In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Nicholas Dinsmore, trainer of Kevin Owens and formerly known as ‘Eugene’ in WWE, revealed that Owens broke down in tears when he received this news!
“Kevin Owens is sitting ringside because he’s just watching the class. I sit down next to him. He said the first time he ever wrestled was for Jacques Rougeau. He kind of acted like somebody else really helped train him. But for some reason the first show was Jacques Rougeau,” explained Dinsmore.
“So a couple of days go by, I come back and said, ‘They got a new character for you. They’re going to bring you in as the new Mountie.’ He was starting to cry. ‘You can’t let them do that.'”
“I said no, it’s gonna be great. It’s gonna be awesome. You’re gonna have that red thing. They might even bring Jacques (Rougeau, The Mountie) in. It’s going to be great.’ He was beginning to panic,” revealed Dinsmore. “Needless to say it didn’t happen.”
Kevin Owens knew that his career was done for with the gimmick
Dinsmore was probably pulling Owens’ leg here. However, we can never be sure. WWE has introduced some of the worst gimmicks over the years.

Stardust, for example, was an attempt to revive the Goldust gimmick and connect Cody Rhodes to his brother. It failed badly however and made Cody’s career in WWE unsalvageable.
Fearing the same fate, Kevin Owens saw his career flash before his eyes. Young wrestlers know that a gimmick can make or break careers. Owens knew that reviving The Mountie was a death sentence.
