Injuries can truly be the dark clouds in matches when Superstars pull up short due to their inability to continue. Although, some have managed to soldier through the pain and make the match count. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson comes to mind as one who braved his fair share of WrestleMania injuries and fought through it for the fans.

In 2012, everyone was gearing up for a John Cena vs The Rock showdown, a clash between generations and Wrestling legends inside the ring. WrestleMania 28 was shaping up as ‘The Brahma Bull’ took on his next and final challenge in the ring.

During the performance, Johnson seemed extremely rigid and didn’t move like he used to. It was obvious that the ‘ring rust’ had got to him due to his immense amount of time away from it, but something worse hit the former WWE Champion later.

Towards the end of the match, Johnson tore his hamstring while taking a hit from John Cena, who jumped from the top rope and landed on his head. He confirmed the same in a tweet following the match.

While this spot may have been done towards the end of the match, it must have been more than just a burden to play it off. However, this wasn’t the only time The Rock pulled up while facing Cena.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson faced a worse injury at WrestleMania 29

The following year at WrestleMania 29, in the exact same match, Johnson suffered even more devastating injuries. During the fight, he tore his abdomen and adductor muscles, which became a serious problem as he continued.

Although, through his lionhearted display of endurance, no one figured out he had sustained an injury. The news broke out later as Johnson revealed the same on his Twitter handle.

According to PWInsider, ‘The People’s Champion’ left the premises immediately after his match at WrestleMania 29. He headed straight home for treatment of his injuries, and WWE had to omit his inclusion from Raw the following day.

This was another hassle since WWE learned of the injuries much later. Due to The Rock’s absence, a lot of the Raw script had to be re-written.

The situation also drew a lot of backstage heat due to The Rock’s inability to deliver as little as a promo while being hurt. Although, the great one had to be safe due to his hectic shooting schedule at the time.
