A few weeks ago, WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan claimed that former American Wrestling Association owner, Verne Gagne, offered his legendary opponent The Iron Sheik money to break his leg at one point in his career.
This story turned a lot of heads and lit a fire in the wrestling world that took time to die out. Apparently, the offer was made to Sheik before his match with Hogan, in what was the star’s final AWA match before heading back to WWE (then WWF) and Vince McMahon.

The intention was probably to break the star power Hogan was about to bring to WWE and would have changed the course of wrestling history. Hogan revealed this shocking piece of information on The Steve Austin Show.
Defending his father, Greg Gagne denied every word that Hogan said about Verne. He claims that his father would never do something like that and the entire thing was made up.

Greg Gagne protected his father Verne against the claims
In a recent interview on SK Wrestling’s UnSKripted series, Greg Gagne explained this entire event in detail and cleared up the fog around his father’s image.
“No. Sheik made that thing up,” said Gagne. “A couple of months ago, my brother and I, he said, ‘You gotta watch this thing on YouTube.’ I never knew he said it. So when he [my brother] had told me, I said, ‘That was never said. Verne never did that.’”
“Iron Sheik, he trained with us and Verne got him started, Verne supported him through the Olympics and everything. He was so naive to the sport, he wasn’t catching on. My mom gave him the name The Iron Sheik, and then the Iranian thing was going on. Vince [McMahon] wanted somebody and Verne sent him up there [to WWE],” revealed Gagne.
