The company promoted the episode as Legends Night where the audience witnessed the return of several legends such as Ric Flair, Mickie James, Hulk Hogan, Alicia Fox, Big Show, and others.
The reason ratings hit a peak
There was a surprise appearance by Bill Goldberg who returned to challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble 2021. This took everyone by surprise since the company was hinting towards a match between Goldberg and Roman Reigns.
The much-hyped match between Roman Reigns and Goldberg was initially scheduled for WrestleMania 36 after the Universal Champion pulled out because of health concerns and the pandemic.
Coming back to the Raw Legends Night, WWE Champion Drew McIntyre faced off against the ‘limitless’ Keith Lee in the main event. While McIntyre emerged victorious, Goldberg made a shocking post-match appearance. He claimed that the ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ doesn’t respect legends because of which Goldberg is challenging him.
Apart from that, Randy Orton’s interactions with the legends had a significant impact. His gimmick as ‘The Legend Killer’ was well utilized during that segment.

WWE might do more episodes that involve certain blasts from the past if the ratings continue to rise whenever veteran Superstars make appearances.
Why did WWE decide to put Goldberg against McIntyre?
WWE will capitalize on Goldberg’s return to reel in viewers for Royal Rumble 2021. Almost everyone wants to see how the storyline plays out.
It’s unlikely that Goldberg jumped from Reigns to McIntyre with no storyline justification. In fact, some fans claim that WWE was forced to pull a rabbit out of his hat due to the lack of credible competitors on the red brand.

In all honesty, both claims make no sense. Neither is there a shortage of good Superstars on the roster, nor does McIntyre disrespect the legends.
