16-time World Champion John Cena is arguably the biggest megastar of the 2000s. The Peacemaker actor made his debut when the big league players like The Rock, Eddie Guerrero, Triple H, Kurt Angle, etc were on top of their games.

However, WWE chairman Vince McMahon stepped a rocket on Cena and pushed him to the moon. Currently, many fans think that John Cena was the last megastar for WWE.

Cena’s initial gimmick on the WWE roster was of a ‘half-man-half-robot.’ Naturally, this didn’t click with the WWE Universe and the management soon dropped this gimmick. However, Cena turned the waves in his direction when he came out rapping and dissing the superstars and WWE Universe.

This gimmick change made Cena an overnight star. It was this time when multiple NBA superstars would attend live WWE shows, and in 2005, Lakers’ legend Carmelo Anthony clicked a dope picture with John Cena.

However, when one fan uploaded this rare picture from 2005 on Twitter, Anthony, using his wits, replied hilariously.

John Cena’s rapping gimmick gained a fresh audience to WWE because the Hip Hop culture was at its peak and every teenager was freestyling back then.

It was because of ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ gimmick that Cena became such a massive superstar during the mid-2000. During this time, Cena feuded with Edge, JBL, Brock Lesnar, Booker T, Big Show, and many other wrestlers.

However, Cena had to drop this gimmick because Vince McMahon wanted to move towards PG-13 programming. And with this change, it meant that Cena could not make his non-PG jokes and rhymes, so he moved towards his ‘Leader of Cenation‘ gimmick.

However, this gimmick change never felt force because the motto of this gimmick was to ‘Never Give Up,’ which was something Cena advocated when he was the ‘Doctor of Thuganomics.’

John Cena can break any of the two records if he won a championship in WWE now

Now, there’s a lot of speculation about whether Cena will come back to WWE for a full-time run or not. With his current busy Hollywood schedule, it doesn’t look like Cena will be back anytime soon.

However, if Cena comes back for one last run in the company; there are still two things left he has not accomplished in WWE. The Suicide Squad actor is tied with Ric Flair with 16 Championship victories, but this can be broken if Cena wins one more.

Currently, Cena is busy making it big in the show business. However, the WWE Universe will always want their ‘Champ’ to come back in the ring.
