The record 42-time 24/7 champion, R Truth, hijacked the kick-off panel, which has become a running gag of sorts. There, he announced he would be defending his title on the Hell in a Cell pre-show. Drew Gulak was announced as his opponent.
The former Cruiserweight Champion assaulted Little Jimmy, R Truth’s imaginary friend. This attack enraged R Truth who went ham on the ‘Philadelphia Stretcher’.
Gulak weathered Truth’s early storm and wrenched at his legs. Gulak continued working Truth’s leg, until the latter escaped a Gory Bomb and hit Gulak with the Cena-esque shoulder blocks.
The homage to John Cena
The homage did not stop at the shoulder blocks, and Truth hit Gulak with the twisting powerbomb followed by the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Truth looked to hit the Attitude Adjustment but Gulak managed to escape from Truth’s grasp.
Gulak avoided certain defeat twice, and looked set to win the title, but a surprise jack-knife pin helped Truth retain the title. Post match, Truth was chased out of the Thunderdome by Gran Metalik, Akira Tozawa and Lince Dorado.
The 24/7 championship match on the pre-show gave the forgotten title some much needed attention. R Truth has been working wonders with the title. His adventures with the title are some of the most memorable moments on Monday Night Raw.

His homage to John Cena would definitely earn as much cheers from the crowd, as John Cena gets jeered for running through the shoulder blocks and Five Knuckle Shuffle. R Truth hilariously referred to Cena as his ‘childhood hero’ on Smackdown in 2019, during his run as United States Champion.
Truth has paid homage to Cena previously as well, the most recent being during the Tuwaiq Trophy Gauntlet Match at WWE Super Showdown. John Cena has not yet commented on Truth calling him his childhood hero. He’s probably confused since Truth is five years older than the 16-time World Champion.
