The go-home edition of NXT saw Gable Stevenson make his presence felt on the show. Right from the gate, the Olympic gold medalist boasted his impressive resume and went over the options he has besides WWE. He was cut off by Baron Corbin, who advised him to return to college or compete in the Olympics. Things escalated quickly after Stevenson challenged Corbin to match at the Great American Bash this Sunday.

While the WWE Universe awaited a response from Corbin, Stevenson picked him up and delivered two suplexes, warding him off outside the ring. WWE has now announced that the match has been made official. And the fans stand divided.

Gable Stevenson was originally called up to the main roster in 2021. He was drafted to RAW during Vince McMahon‘s regime; however, his reported health issues kept him from making his in-ring debut on the flagship show. Moreover, Stevenson had to step away from WWE as he was aiming to compete in the 2024 Olympics.

Last year, the two-time NCAA Champion accompanied Kurt Angle to the ring and helped douse The Alpha Academy with Angle’s milk truck. Fans thought they had seen the last of Stevenson until he recently made a surprise appearance on NXT Underground and dished out suplexes to wrestlers who stood in his way

The fact that Stevenson is facing Baron Corbin in his first match is intriguing because the Lone Wolf was responsible for retiring another Olympic Champion, Kurt Angle. Besides, Baron Corbin is a respectable name on the WWE roster. Surprisingly enough, despite being a heel, Corbin has many fans cheering for him in the lead-up to his match at The Great American Bash.

We will have to wait and see how Gable Stevenson fares against The former King of the Ring winner.

Can Baron Corbin subdue a younger Olympian?

Let’s admit it, Gable Stevenson is a legitimate wrestling machine. Even though Baron Corbin has more experience in the squared circle, he will easily be out-wrestled by Stevenson. After all, the 23-year-old is the protege of Brock Lesnar.

As noted, Corbin may be a heel, but he has more support from the fans. By the looks of it, Stevenson is going to have to work harder to earn respect in WWE. But there are still a handful of Corbin’s detractors that want to see him take a beating. Here is how the fans reacted to the announcement of the upcoming match.

Watching Gable go to town on suplexes is guaranteed.

Corbin is shaping into a fan-favorite heel.
