Cody Rhodes retained his title for the first time at a PLE since his big WrestleMania XL victory. Despite murmurs of a stale title reign beginning to etch itself in the hearts of the wrestling faithful, Rhodes proved them wrong with his scintillating display against AJ Styles in France on the 4th of May. Now that he has proven himself worthy of retaining the title, the AEW star reveled in the spotlight cast onto him.

Recently, The American Nightmare changed his social media bio. While he probably did so to primarily feel better about his position in the company, it can be seen as an attack on Roman Reigns as well.

Following his title retention at Backlash 2024, Cody Rhodes took to ‘X’ to change his bio on the platform. Although he has previously been considered the ‘new face of WWE’, it wasn’t until this PLE that The American Nightmare accepted this moniker and added it to his bio. His Twitter bio now reads, “Quarterback“. Since Rhodes does not participate in any football leagues because of his focus on pro wrestling, we can assume that this means that he thinks he is now the spearhead of the company and is an important figure for its success.

When he had the title on his shoulder, Reigns also considered himself the ‘quarterback’ of the Stamford-based company. So, even if unintentional, Rhodes’ Twitter bio is a jibe at the former WWE Undisputed Universal Champion.

Since Gunther lost his IC Championship at Mania, fans have expressed their desire to see the star pursue a bigger title. According to the podcast hosts, The Ring General would be the right person to feud against the reigning WWE Undisputed Universal Champion.

The American Nightmare has feuded with the Imperium leader before as part of their brief face-off at the Royal Rumble 2023. So, their storyline wouldn’t be completely out of the blue. However, not a lot of fans would support it if WWE ended the 38-year-old talent’s ‘quarterback’ era this early.
