It is safe to say that Twitter blew up when Sting walked out. He confronted Arn Anderson, Cody Rhodes and the TNT Champion Darby Allin. The commentary team put Sting over hugely as one of Cody Rhodes’ inspiration and his favourite childhood wrestler.

AEW fans were hyped to see Sting in AEW and could not contain their excitement. Even through mobile phones and laptops, the excitement of seeing the Icon in Tony Khan’s playground was palpable.

Along with Edge’s return at the Royal Rumble, this moment is probably the greatest return/debut of 2020. While millions were happy to see Sting, some weren’t exactly happy with what transpired.

Fans were unhappy with the fact that Undertaker vs Sting did not happen. Taker retiring at Survivor Series and Sting’s AEW debut confirms that we won’t be seeing the dream match for sure.

Fans call AEW’s decision to bring back the Icon hypocritical

Certain fans called out AEW and AEW fans’ hypocrisy over the use of older talent. It is hard to argue that Sting’s presence will not add a lot of value to AEW, but some called the move hypocritical, and if WWE did it, fans would rip them to shreds on social media.

Fans troll the musician Sting instead of the wrestler

Some Twitter users took the opportunity to troll the musician Sting. The former lead singer of The Police has had nothing to do with wrestling, but apparently his namesake caused quite a buzz on Dynamite.

Tony Schiavone was also trending on Twitter for his awesome reaction to the awesome moment. Fans praised him for calling the moment exactly how it was supposed to be. He will also conduct Sting’s first interview in All Elite Wrestling.

The WCW Icon showing up in AEW is good for Tony Khan. He will attract some much needed views from older audiences and will also sell a lot of merchandise. In spite of the comparisons to WWE, the moment was incredible and only a Rated-R return at the Rumble topped it.
