Theme songs are an integral part of pro wrestling. They set the tone for a wrestler’s entrance. A good theme song can charge up the crowd. These days, the crowd is hooked to Cody Rhodes’ theme song, Kingdom. The catchy beat has led to spectators singing along, especially the big ‘Whoa’. A member of the Downstait, the band who composed the track, has now made a scary admission.

Why will the popular song haunt Downstait’s vocalist?

Zack Call, who produced the song, recently spoke about the origin of the track during a chat with Tom Campbell on Cultaholic Wrestling’s Desert Island Graps. Call said he was invested in Cody Rhodes as a performer, since his earlier WWE run. “Cody was going through his trials in WWE with the Stardust thing. The ‘Dashing’ thing and the mask thing was such a cool character. He was having great matches every night. I was invested in Cody.”

They recorded the song after he left the WWE in 2016, in pursuit of greener pastures. “When we got into writing [the song] after he said, ‘Yeah, give it a shot,’ I was like, I know the story. I know this guy’s character up and down, and let me see if he doesn’t kind of I jab WWE a little bit.”

However, the musician said he didn’t write the big ‘Whoa’ initially. “The one part that I didn’t write in that song that will haunt me till the day I die is the big ‘woah’,” he said.

Asked if the ‘Whoa’ was sarcastic, he agreed and said the band sprinkled Easter Eggs for the fans as the latter loved them. He, however, admitted that the band had no idea that the song would attain such popularity.

Meanwhile, The American Nightmare is slowly living up to his iconic theme song.

Cody Rhodes slowly building his Kingdom in WWE

Kingdom first blared in WWE programs at WrestleMania 38, which remained privy to Cody Rhodes’ comeback. The Prince of Pro Wrestling has been slowly living up to the lyrics of the song. The lyrics of his entrance music speak about Cody Rhodes’s choices through the years and his quest to build his kingdom.

He had left WWE primarily because of the Stardust gimmick, which didn’t sit well with him. Once out of the Stamford-based promotion, Rhodes proved his worth in the independent circuit and later helped launch All Elite Wrestling, WWE’s rival. After a few years in the promotion, Rhodes jumped ship to his old fold.

This time, however, it is different. The company’s number one babyface is enjoying a bolstered run. Upon his return, he defeated Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38 and won the 2023 Royal Rumble. Cody Rhodes also featured in the main event of WrestleMania 39, going toe-to-toe with Roman Reigns. While he failed to grab the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and finish his story, Rhodes put up a brave fight.
