During Punk’s first stint in WWE, the promotion teased a potential field between him and Austin, during various backstage segments. Even more, the two hinted at the beginning of a rivalry during the promotion of the WWE ’13 video game.

However, the plan never materialized as Austin retired at WrestleMania 19 in 2003 due to a severe neck injury. Moreover, all hopes died when ‘The Best in the World’ left WWE in 2014 because of a fallout with the company. But now both the superstars are back.

WWE could plan to bring ‘The Texas Rattlesnake’ back at Royal Rumble and have him eliminate Punk (who is one of the contestants of the match). This could lead to the start of a rivalry between the two, reaching its end with a match at WrestleMania 40.

Will the fans get the dream match they have been waiting for?
