Hell finally froze over when CM Punk made an astonishing return to WWE last Saturday. Now that the Second City Saint’s several-year contract with the Stamford-based promotion is also certain, fans and pundits have started scrutinizing his prospective journey in WWE. Who will Punk feud with? Will he finally get what he wanted all those years ago? And most importantly will he have a smoother run than his AEW stint?

However, with his return, the fans will take a wee bit of time to forget what happened after the 2014 Royal Rumble. Actually, following that year’s Royal Rumble match, Punk sustained a concussion because he was chokeslammed through the announcer’s table by Kane. Punk stated he wanted to main event WrestleMania and for that, a Rumble win would’ve been ideal but it was not to be. The next day on Raw, Punk suddenly walked out of WWE and didn’t return until last Saturday.

Moreover, Punk revealed some controversial reasons for leaving the WWE following his decision. Now that the 45-year-old is advertised for the forthcoming Royal Rumble, it will be interesting to see how the WWE rectifies that error.

CM Punk could win the Rumble and then face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania

It seems like the 10-year-long anticipation might catapult CM Punk to the main event scene anytime soon. The Chicago native recently said on Raw that he came to the WWE not to make friends but to make money. This certainly hints that WWE could plan something big for Punk soon. Moreover, Seth Rollins‘ controversial gestures while Punk was celebrating his return in the Allstate Arena suggest that there could be a feud in the making.

As we know, The Visionary is the current World Heavyweight Champion. And that gives WWE every possible reason to plan a blockbuster match at WrestleMania 40. For this, Punk could be booked to stand victorious in the 2024 Royal Rumble match, which could put him in a main event match with Rollins at WrestleMania 40. With WrestleMania being two nights, WWE could’ve Punk main event night one, thus fulfilling his lifelong dream. This is how WWE could come on great terms with Punk and help him forget what happened back in 2014.

Since Cody Rhodes could yet again be heading for a feud with Roman Reigns, Punk could be the best option to dethrone Rollins.

CM Punk could face and beat Rollins at Royal Rumble

Another way that WWE could plan the booking for CM Punk is by providing him with a title shot at Seth Rollins’ gold before WrestleMania. Royal Rumble has a rich history of title matches and this could be another addition to the list. Thus, WWE could start building Punk’s story with Rollins this month so that both can meet at the Royal Rumble. The match has the potential to steal the show at Rumble. This means Punk could walk into WrestleMania 40 as the defending World Champion, another milestone. For Punk things will have also changed from the last time he wrestled in WWE.

Rollins was just a member of Shield back in 2014 and now he has developed himself into one of the biggest stars of the company. SHIELD even debuted to assist Punk in his title defense at Survivor Series 2012m so there is a lot of history for WWE to explore. WWE could hand Punk the strap at Rumble and focus on him on his road to WrestleMania immortality.

The reason why WWE could pull this off his obvious. Punk’s return video posted by WWE on X crossed all the viewership records in such a short span. Moreover, it was also able to break the record for Dwayne Johnson’s one-off appearance. So, it is clear how much the fans love the ‘Second City Saint’.
