When it comes to eye-catching wrestlers in the 2000s, everyone remembers Carlito. With an afro and an apple in hand, his tagline, “I spit in the face of people who don’t want to be cool,” made him a tremendous hit amongst fans. Unfortunately, in 2010, he was released from the WWE. Now, when wrestlers prepare to return to Vince’s playground, they often keep everything as the fans remember it in order to invoke a familiar feeling.
However, this wasn’t the case with Carlito as he returned to Fastlane in 2023 to help the LWO, but something was different. It was not his new shredded body but his theme song that was changed.

A wrestler’s theme song is something unique to that wrestler. They invoke feelings of nostalgia and bliss in the hearts of fans who then love to hum and cheer the superstar. This was the case for Carlito when he debuted in 2004, with his iconic catchphrase being the first thing people heard from his theme song.
This was when people noticed the change in his theme song. The iconic line was changed, and the slow Caribbean music was now fast-paced. Despite getting a massive pop from the crowd, Carito revealed he was not a fan of the new music. While speaking to The Ringer he made his feelings on the new music clear.
Carlito revealed that he actually wanted to keep his old theme-song upon returning to WWE.
“From what I heard, people weren’t crazy about the new theme song — They ran it by me. They wanted to change it. I wasn’t crazy about changing it. I, like everyone else, wanted to keep it.… pic.twitter.com/ggY99zr0jd

Carlito initially said, “You gotta change with the times a little bit.” This showed that he knew he had to change things up before he made his return, as it was over a decade since he was part of the WWE. Carlito went on to add, “From what I’ve heard, people aren’t crazy about the new theme song yet.” Carlito acknowledged that the new theme wasn’t as good as the old one.
However, he did say, “I know people don’t like change. I’m that guy too.” This showcased Carlito’s hesitation to change, yet knowing that it was required at the time. The new theme did generate some negative responses from fans. Many claimed that the old was better, while others felt the new one was appropriate to the new era of Carlito. The 44-year-old is here to stay for the long run and fans are excited about his future.

The future shines bright for Carlito and LWO
Since Fastlane 2023, the LWO has been in a feud with Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits. This last week on SmackDown, the Street Profits attacked him. This ensures the feud will continue while there is a chance Carlito could go after the Tag Team titles.
This would not be the first time Carlito made his return to the WWE. In January 2021, Carlito returned to WWE’s Royal Rumble match at #8. However, he did have his original theme song.
