WWE Payback saw a lot of crazy moments as the ratings went through the roof. The crowd favorite Roman Reigns stole the show with a thumping victory against “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman to become the new Universal Champion.

This was not the only talking point from the show. During the match, “The Fiend” delivered a massive Superplex to Braun Strowman from the top rope. The impact of this huge fall made the ring break down and everything collapsed.

In the heat of this moment, referee Charles Robinson was seen falling out of the ring. The only issue was that the way he fell out was obviously forced. People realized that he jumped to make it look like he naturally fell out.

This moment received a lot of unreal criticism and banter from fans who trashed the referee for overselling on Social media. Soon, this became a major talking point.

Later, in a post on Twitter, Robinson himself commented on the moment and justified his actions as you can see in the tweet below.

WWE referees have an important role to play in any match

Over the years, WWE referees have seen some pretty intense moments. They often fall victim to a lot of Superstar attacks, intentionally or unintentionally. This brings them into a very tough spot.

Fans find it very amusing that referees get knocked out with so much as a tap on the head, and stay unconscious for a good time after that.

Here, Robinson received a lot of hate for visibly jumping out of the ring for dramatic effect.

While he did add a little extra theatrics to his fall, the amount of criticism Robinson has been receiving is somewhat insensitive.

Many a time, the officials may not get enough credit but they do play a very important role in the match apart from just counting to three.

As he sufficiently explained in his tweet, Robinson tried his best to sell his part. Unfortunately, it didn’t go his way. Like him, we as fans must also move on from this rather than fixating on that one botch.
