Gangster shows inspiring WWE? Paul Heyman credits them for Roman Reigns' Bloodline success!

Paul Heyman plays a significant position in WWE and The Bloodline with The Wise Man emerging as a focal point in strategy and creativity. He recently spoke at the Fanatics Fest, where he suggested how WWE has taken inspiration from web shows and applied it to their current products.

This interview with Paul Heyman was posted on Matt Kempke’s YouTube channel, where he discussed how Triple H is attempting to create wrestler characters similar to those found in movies. The WWE Hall of Famer stated that WWE does not want to repeat the mistake they made in 2014 by promoting Roman Reigns incessantly. The Stamford-based promotion has adopted a new outlook in terms of characterization as they aim to create a wave of reliability around their stars. They want to develop this feeling so that there’s no repeat of the air of negativity that engulfed WWE in 2014 when the fans booed a babyface.

Heyman even mentioned that WWE is attempting to create a wrestler persona similar to that of a gangster by following the lead of a popular web series. Currently, The OTC is the wrestler whose character work is based on this plan. The Wise Man stated in the interview, “That if we don’t deserve the cheers, we’re not gonna ask for them because we didn’t earn it. That we take compelling storylines, that we look at TV shows like Peaky Blinders or The Sopranos or The Wire or Breaking Bad. Notice how these are all gangster shows, by the way. Or you look at the movies that become popular and then the common thread is that you care about these characters.”
