WWE has given its fans memorable storylines over many decades. Some of these are close to people’s hearts and are fondly remembered, whereas many received criticism. However, exactly 20 years ago, the company came up with a storyline that makes fans cringe to this day. The ‘Katie Vick’ angle involving WWE legends Kane and Triple H was one of the most controversial things WWE had done on TV.
Even after two decades of the storyline, the fans cannot seem to get over the bad impression it left. The fans recently recalled the angle while talking about the most embarrassing things they have seen on a national wrestling TV show.

As wrestling has had its share of embarrassing moments over the years, the fact that the ‘Katie Vick’ storyline of WWE tops the list for most fans tells us a lot.
Fans react to the infamous Katie Vick angle trending again
In 2002, a rampant Kane was involved in a heated feud with the World Heavyweight Champion Triple H. The storyline took a ‘personal’ turn when The Game revealed that Kane had kayfabe-killed his supposed ex-girlfriend, Katie Vick, many years ago. He implied that Kane may have engaged in sexual intercourse afterward.
On the 21 October 2002 edition of RAW, Triple H, disguised as ‘The Big Red Machine’, pretended to get sexually physical with a mannequin of Vick. The fans complained about the angle and criticized the WWE for doing something like this on national television. Despite the backlash, WWE continued with this absurd angle on the next episode of RAW, where Triple H brought the ‘Katie Vick’ mannequin to the ring and took shots at fans who opposed the angle.

This led to a casket match between Kane and Triple H, which Kane ended up winning after an assist from Shawn Michaels. However, what remains with fans to this day is the tasteless storyline of Katie Vick, knowing that it’s all a fake story and there was never any murder or even a real person named Katie Vick whom Kane dated.
Katie Vick was the hot topic on Twitter after even 20 years as fans recalled the angle not too fondly.
To this day who let this story line be written? Who thought this was a good idea?

The storyline did scar fans badly.
This + Eugene was the cancer that took my full-time wrestling fandom. That they brutalized the invasion angle didn’t help either.

Despite how much WWE would like, it seems fans haven’t forgotten about this ugly past.
Bruce Prichard once talked about the Katie Vick storyline
Long-tenured WWE personality Bruce Prichard was also involved in the filming of the infamous ‘Katie Vick’. In 2018, Prichard talked about the story on his “Something to Wrestle With Bruce Prichard” podcast. He said that WWE wanted the angle to bring the heat on Triple H, but it didn’t turn out that way. Prichard said that the video of Triple H dressed as Kane was met with laughter by the live audience, which was a relief to him.
Prichard said, “I believe that the overall response on the video was laughter which than the live audience you know frankly I was relieved that at least they laughed at it and they didn’t boo it out of the building so that part I was happy about”.

In his opinion, there wasn’t outrage over the angle but rather disbelief. He further added that he and Triple H did talk to Vince McMahon about it beforehand, but nothing changed. Prichard stated, “It wasn’t like an outcry of outrage it was more people saying can you believe they did that.”
