Similar to the past few WrestleMania, fans saw WrestleMania 39 conducted over two days as well. The second-day main event had Cody Rhodes battling it out against Roman Reigns and the first one saw The Usos fight against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens for the Undisputed tag team championship.

However, the first night’s main event sparked major controversies as Charlotte Flair, and her father Ric Flair became vocal about her not main-eventing the first night despite her opponent Rhea Ripley being the Women’s Royal Rumble winner. This prompted Kevin Owens to recently speak up and address the issue.

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, ‘The Prizefighter’ Kevin Owens opened up on the situation and also took a subtle dig at Charlotte Flair, and her father Ric Flair. Owens would speak up, and state that despite their claim, Owens and Zayn deserved the main event.

Recently, after SummerSlam, Triple H found himself on the receiving end of some criticism after dropping two Women’s matches from the card. However, during the interview, Owens defended The Game.

He said, “There was talk at one point before WrestleMania, ‘who is going to be the main event? Is it going to be Charlotte [Charlotte Flair] and Rhea [Rhea Ripley] or is it the Tag team Title match?’ I obviously wanted it to be us because I felt like our story deserved it, 100%.”

The 39-year-old Owens further stated, “As far as matches go, of course that match could main event, no problem. Story wise, to me there is no doubt it should have been us. I really wanted to main event, not for me, I got to do it with Steve [Steve Austin at WrestleMania 38]. Sami and the Usos deserved that. I’m so glad it worked out because they deserved it more than anybody.”

Owens explained that both their story, and the persons involved deserved to main-event at least at one ‘Mania, and he was glad that they did. Charlotte Flair on the other hand has been able to main-event a WrestleMania before.
