CM Punk breaking his straight-edge rule—does this make him more relatable or less authentic to you?

CM Punk is a prominent member of straight-edge culture and maintains a lifestyle in which he does not drink or use drugs. Many fans admire the former WWE champion for this trait, as it is an anomaly in today’s world. However, an old story has reappeared amidst the wrestling community that highlighted a precious moment when the Chicago-based star indulged in some light drinking.

This is an old tale in which Bruce Prichard discusses his conversation with CM Punk on his values. Punk informed him that he does not take any of those substances, but he does not criticize others who do. The reason for this, according to the former AEW star, is that everyone chooses their lifestyle; if he does not do anything in his life, it does not imply that the other person will. After hearing this, Bruce Prichard and CM Punk hit it off and became excellent friends.

Bruce Prichard then recounted a tale of the legendary Harley Race’s birthday, when Punk took a shot of whiskey. Prichard adds that the Best in the World did this out of respect for the renowned wrestler. Moreover, the Raw star reiterated that if he took a shot, it wouldn’t leave him hungover or in a negative state. This was a fantastic gesture by Punk, demonstrating how much he values his profession and his contemporaries.

A Reddit post recollected this story where Prichard stated, “It was in Kansas City or St Louis somewhere, and it was Harley Race’s birthday. And he was at Harley’s camp, out at a restaurant/bar type thing and everybody got shots for Harley’s birthday. Now Punk doesn’t drink, doesn’t do drugs, but he took a shot out of respect for Harley Race.”
